Elite Variant
The Elite Goblin Axeman looks nearly identical to its normal counterpart but is far deadlier in combat.
Upgrades Include:
Increased Health
Faster Attack Speed
Higher Damage Output
Combat Strategy:
The core moveset remains unchanged, but the increased speed tightens your dodge window. Pre-emptive movement is crucial, don't wait for visual wind-ups; instead, time your dodges based on rhythm and proximity.
Players who defeat the Elite variant are more likely to find Dark and Darker items of higher rarity, such as improved armor or tiered weaponry. It's also a better source of Dark and Darker gold, especially when farming efficiently in mid-tier areas of the caves.
Nightmare Variant
Facing the Nightmare Goblin Axeman is no small feat. Reserved for high-difficulty zones and advanced players, this variant introduces not just statistical enhancements but also an entirely new attack pattern.
Nightmare Enhancements:
Increased Move Speed
Further Boosted Attack Speed
Greater Health and Armor
New Third Attack in Combo
New Combo Attack:
After the standard two diagonal slashes, the Nightmare variant can unleash a third horizontal slash (right to left from the monster's POV). This triple-attack combo is lethal if unanticipated and can one-shot undergeared characters.
How to Survive:
Kite and Control: Use terrain and tight spaces to buy Darker Gold your advantage. Pillars or narrow corridors can limit the Axeman's swing range.
Time-Based Dodging: The triple combo is rhythmic. Count the slashes: "One, two... pause... three!" then strike.
Team Play: In groups, have one player draw aggro while others flank and damage.
Defeating the Nightmare Axeman often rewards players with rare Dark and Darker items and a higher chance at coin purses, gemstones, and unique crafting materials. This is one of the best opportunities in the Goblin Caves to farm significant Dark and Darker gold in a single kill, if you survive.
