3. Zone Hitting vs. Other Hitting Interfaces
MLB The Show offers multiple hitting interfaces, but Zone Hitting (which uses the PCI) gives you the most control and is widely considered the best for competitive play.
The other modes:
Directional Hitting – More RNG-based, letting the game decide more of the hit outcome.
Timing Hitting – Simplifies mechanics, but limits your ability to direct the ball.
If you're serious about improving, stick with Zone Hitting. It may take time to learn, but it provides the greatest reward in terms of consistent, powerful contact.
4. Swing Types Matter: Know When to Use Them
There are three types of swings:
Normal Swing (X / A) – Best all-around choice. Use it most often.
Contact Swing (O / B) – Useful when behind in the count or trying to advance runners.
Power Swing (Square / Y) – Great for slugging, but risky due to smaller PCI and longer swing animation.
Stick with Normal Swing until you’re very comfortable with your PCI placement and timing.
5. Putting It All Together – The Hitter’s Mental Checklist
Before every at-bat, focus on this simple checklist:
Know the situation – count, outs, runners, and pitcher’s tendencies.
Stay patient – Don’t swing unless the pitch is in your zone.
Track the pitch – Watch the pitcher’s release point and recognize pitch type early.
Move PCI with purpose – Smooth, intentional adjustments.
Time it right – Let the ball travel and buy MLB The Show 25 Stubs swing when it’s in the sweet spot.
